Environmental Health and Safety
The Company views Environmental Health & Safety ("EHS") as an integral part of its business planning, development and decision-making processes. PDC understands that responsible EHS performance is important to the success of its business and makes the ongoing efforts the responsibility of every employee. The Company’s EHS culture stresses personal accountability among employees, contractors and others working for PDC or on PDC properties.
In order to promote the knowledge and understanding of the current laws, regulations and standards, PDC Energy has established a series of EHS policies to provide employees with a safe and healthy workplace. The policies were established to promote knowledge and understanding of laws, regulations as well as industry best practices and standards. With this knowledge, employees have the necessary framework within which to maintain a safe and healthy workplace while protecting the environment and its partner communities. In addition to supplying its teams with vital EHS information, the Company engages in continuous improvement by monitoring procedures and controls ensuring high EHS standards.
PDC works cooperatively with various governments, regulatory agencies, communities, industry representatives, customers and suppliers to stay informed of current EHS initiatives, needs and activities.
Climate and Environment
As the conversation over the risks of climate change has increased, PDC Energy understands that some of our stakeholders may have questions and concerns. It’s important for PDC to be a part of that conversation and to express our commitment to the protection of the environment.
At PDC, our core values emphasize integrity and respect for the environment and the health, safety and well-being of our employees and communities where we live and work. To that end, PDC recognizes the importance of producing an affordable, reliable and abundant energy source in a way that minimizes emissions and lessens potential impact on the environment.
For example, PDC:
- Has a robust air quality compliance monitoring program that utilizes state-of-the-art emissions cameras. These cameras use infrared technology to detect natural gas, allowing our employees to see leaks in real time – enabling faster corrective actions.
- Utilizes pipelines to transport materials, decreasing emissions from truck traffic.
- Is exploring new technologies around reduced tank facilities. This innovative approach to production facility design is expected to minimize emission sources and potential for spills.
- Has a program to safely plug and abandon wells that have reached the end of their production life.
Minimizing our impact is the right thing to do and allows PDC to grow in a way that’s cleaner, more innovative and more efficient.
Commitment to Continued Education
At PDC, safety is our highest priority. Upon hiring, PDC field employees receive safety training followed by daily, weekly and monthly safety meetings. It’s also important to us that our contractors and anyone who may be present on our locations are aware of our safety expectations and are held to the same high standard.
Annually, our employees receive continued education and training about the latest safety standards, new best practices, updated regulatory requirements and working with first responders.
